Baby clothes – what size is the right size?

It is always an amazing thing to welcome a new member in to your household. More so, if it is a child - your newborn baby. But sometimes, shopping for clothes for children can be slightly problematic. In the sense that, babies seem to grow too fast; so fast that sometimes you don’t even get a chance to model all those new baby clothes you bought. Simply because they just won’t fit! So what do you do to make sure you don’t face this dilemma?

Simple. Just make sure you buy the right-size clothes for your adorable darlings. No doubt that you want to buy all the latest fashion in children wear for your kid, but keep in mind that babies grow and trends change too soon, too fast. The only solution is you don’t buy in bulk and stock up on clothes you want your baby to wear in winter, when its only summer. What is most likely to happen, is when wintertime comes around, your baby just won’t fit into those clothes.

It is very unnerving for a baby to be pushed and prodded into clothes that aren’t right for it. It might lead to breathing problems and severe discomfort. Choosing the right size of clothes is very important, therefore. The best thing to do is ensure you carry your child with you when shopping for example, baby dresses. That way, you can try clothes on her, see if they fit well and look good and then buy it.

In the case where the baby is too small or cannot be taken to a store for trials, you should buy just one size larger than what you think will fit him or her. Why, you ask? Well, if the clothes are a little too big, the baby will definitely not feel mortified. In fact, it’ll allow him more breathing room, the airflow will be better and you can hang on to those clothes for longer. Enough benefits, I believe.

Another problem is gifting baby clothes to new parents. The norm is to go to a store that stocks infant / children clothing and ask for a size corresponding to the age of the baby. Most of the times things go wrong for the following reasons:

    - People just assume that children will definitely fit into clothes that match their age. Which means, by normal standards, a dress that says on the label “for ages 2-3” will be just right for a girl who just turned 2. Wrong! Many children are plumper, smaller, taller, shorter for their age. In that case, the dress, in most probability, will never see the light of the day, because it won’t fit her anyway.

    - For gifting purposes, people tend to buy gorgeous fantasies in georgette, lace or velvet or similar materials. What they forget is that a child is not interested in looking like a princess out of a storybook. Yes, it is an added bonus, but the child also needs to be comfortable. Natural fibers like cotton suit the soft skin and don’t force the body to look like confetti. Also they are more durable and fall into the natural body shape of the child.
